According to the national park chief Narin Pinsakul, the shutdown of Khao Yai National Park has provided more benefit than loss, giving nature and it’s stressed wildlife a chance to rest and recover. On average, the park which spans an area of 2,168km² or about 1.3 million rai has over a million visitors per year.
In the past month, the park rangers have spotted more wild animals than ever while patrolling the forest. They have seen dhole, serow, barking deer, smooth-coated otters, Malayan porcupines, and silver pheasants to name a few. Four types of hornbills have also been spotted — great hornbills, wreathed hornbills, white-throated brown hornbills, and oriental pied hornbills.
