Muang District, Mukdahan province–Last week a grandmother of a 14-year-old girl came to the police and pressed charges against 5 teachers and 2 alumni at a school in Mukdahan province, NE Thailand. At first, the 14yr old girl was terrified to tell anyone about the assaults because if she did, her teachers threatened to hold her back from advancing to the next grade. But her wise grandmother sensed something different about her and eventually got her to talk. The 14yr old girl was in tears when her grandmother brought her to the police to give details of her repeated rapes.
Recently, another girl came forward who claimed she too had been repeatedly gang-raped by all 3 of the same teachers the 14yr old was raped by. Both victims were reportedly raped on a number of occasions over a one-year span starting in March of 2019.
The teens have been placed into protective custody while undergoing a combination of interrogation and treatment for PTSD. The 16-year-old will be a key witness for the 14yr olds gang rape case and then testify for her own case. Meanwhile, Police were able to gather more evidence after hearing more details from the 16yr old.
The police later returned to the school went back to the school and found liquor –bottles and used condoms. Thailand has been known to perform DNA testing under certain circumstances especially crimes of sexual assault cases. As of now, the teachers await trial while under suspension from their school and have not been found guilty yet. All have denied the charges against them.
