Department of Public Works Has not been listening to the public, especially those affiliated with ‘Save Samilia Beach‘.
On May 11th a sea wall continued its construction process despite local efforts to shut it down. In fact, the contractor for the wave construction project at Muang Ngam Beach, Songkhla Province, has accelerated the project. Songkhla is a province in southern Thailand bordering Malaysia and the Gulf of Thailand. The capital, also called Songkhla, is known for the white-sand beach Hat Samila.

They have Continuously been bulldozing on the beach while the public protesters combed the beach. Numerous attempts have been made, asking the Department of Civil Works to end their operations.

A seawall or revetment is being constructed to prevent wave currents from eroding the shores. It can be built from stone, wooden logs, sandbags, etc. The benefits of a seawall lie in good force absorption, cheap maintenance, and easy local management, but some communities think differently.

The locals believe the force of the current will sweep the sand away, causing the beach to disappear, construction costs are expensive and they are prone to subsidence over the long term.
