Pattani Special Task Force Captures Fugitive Connected to 2017 “Patani Complex Attack”

Pattani, Thailand May 28–

Scout 44 Special Task Force targeted an abandoned house at a rubber plantation after receiving reports that a wanted fugitive was staying there.

The Special Task Force also witnessed teenagers coming and going regularly and suspected a link to a drug network. The task force then proceeded to surround the old wooden pole house, they knocked but no answer. Until suddenly the suspect armed jumped out of a wall and tried to flee the scene. Police chased the suspect on foot through the rubber forest as the suspect was able to squeeze off one shot with his 38 Calibur gun before special agents tackled him to the ground.

The suspect is 34-year-old Ayman Gunno who had a warrant for his arrest for 3 criminal charges and was detained for further questioning.

Ayman Gunno is connected to a series of bombings between 2017-2020. In particular, the “Patani Complex attack” which happened on 22 SEP 2017. Four Rangers were killed and six others wounded when insurgents detonated a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (RCIED) on Highway 41 in Tambon Tabing, Sai Buri district, Pattani. The attack happened when the group of nine rangers from Ranger Task Force 44 was traveling in a pickup truck on a routine patrol near Ban Cho Kue Yae village in Tambon Tabing. They were patrolling the road providing protection for teachers when the bomb detonated.
