Myanmar doctor gets 21 months jail for insulting the monks on sex education in schools

Dr. Choawin Than, 31, was arrested in May amid hundreds of crowds gathered at a temple in Makthila. He traveled to ask for forgiveness from the monks who he insulted and mocked on Facebook.

“He feels sorry and admits his guilt, but the court has still made the decision,” said Jaw Myawin, a court spokesman. The court in Mandalay prosecuted the doctor under criminal law for insulting religious beliefs. Jao Win Tan’s Facebook post responded to the comments of many monks who condemned the government’s proposal regarding sex education in schools. But now Jong Win’s post has been deleted so news sources were unable to verify.

Senior officials from the Mandalay Religious Affairs Office confirmed the verdict. “We filed a lawsuit against him because he violated the law” The official did not want to reveal the name. Told Reuters
The post of Facebook has been deleted and Reuters can’t verify it. There is a language that is considered offensive to monks. And the question of whether these monks are in a position to present their views on sex education.
