It was 08.00 hrs. when Lieutenant Colonel Nithit started his routine check-up at Phatthana Nikhom police station. He normally inspects uniforms, checks hairstyles, and then calls for an inspection of police officers’ sidearms before leaving for duty. He proceeded to ask everyone to disarm their weapons and place them on the table inside a meeting room located on the 3rd floor.
He inspected mostly Sig Sauer’s or Glock’s before inspecting his own Sig Sauer but forgot to check the chamber before placing it in its holster. When he went to sit down during the patrol meeting his gun went off. Police officers dove to the ground and were shocked to see their lieutenant collapsed on the floor. Fellow police officers quickly applied first aid before rushing him to Narai Maharaj Hospital.
Lieutenant Colonel Nithit had 4 9mm gun wounds in his left thigh and shin from one bullet that ricocheted 4 times in and out also cutting through a large blood vessel which caused him to lose a lot of blood. He is expected to recover although he probably won’t be inspecting guns anytime soon. Always check the chamber before holstering your firearm to make sure it is unloaded.
