Award-winning director-writer Chaninthorn Prasertprasart dies in suspected suicide

On Sunday (June 21) at 8.30 pm Police were notified by neighbors of a loud gunshot inside a condominium at Soi Soonvijai 14, Bangkapi Subdistrict, Huai Khwang District, Bangkok.

Police then rushed to the scene to find Mr. Chaninthorn’s dead in his wheelchair on the 2nd floor of the building inside Room 204/12. He used a 9mm handgun and shot himself in the right temple.   Prasert Prasaset, 59, is a famous drama director/ writer who had health issues that forced him into a wheelchair. Recently the deceased relatives said that Mr. Chaninthorn was stressed about his health problems and did not want to live anymore.

Chaninthorn had been working for Broadcast Thai Television that produces TV dramas for Channel 3. He was the director of many hit dramas, including “Raeng Ngao”, “Jan Eay Jan Jao”, “Leuamprairak” and “Plerng Boon”, and was also a writer for “Saphai Jao”, “Than Chai Pawornruj” and “Raeng Ngao 2”. He was awarded the Nataraj Award for Best Director for “Raeng Ngao” in 2012, hosted by the Radio-Television Broadcasting Professional Federation.
