6000 Monkeys have taken over the ancient city of Lop Buri–MACAQUE ATTACK–VIDEO

Old theaters and tombs have been taken over by monkeys in the ancient city Lop Buri. Over 6000 monkeys have taken over the streets around Prang Sam Yod temple, a popular historical site of the city now patrolled by aggressive monkeys as if they were soldiers from Planet Of the Apes.

Shop owners  have come up with creative ways to keep the monkeys away by using stuffed crocodiles, tigers, or anything they see as a preditor, however, those methods seem pointless as they just ignore them and sometimes even play with them.

Visitors often feed the monkeys with bananas, but with the ongoing pandemic and several travel restrictions, the monkeys were left to scavenge for food that usually results in theft and vandalism.

There are around 6,000 monkeys reportedly living around the temples and around an abandoned movie theater. Their numbers have doubled since the last sterilization campaign by authorities three years ago.

The monkeys are lured into cages using vegetables and fruits and are then brought to a clinic for sterilizing, the clinic’s goal is to sterilize at least 500 monkeys per month.
