Anger over proposed list of rules for nightlife and entertainment venues opening in Thailand
Bangkok – The entertainment industry as well as both foreign and Thai social media have erupted over the past day regarding proposed rules to be presented to the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) this Friday. The proposed rules-which the Government is now stressing is only a proposal and not set in stone in any such way were created primarily by a combination of entertainment industry owners, medical doctors and advisors to the CCSA.
The “proposed rules”-which the Government is now saying is only a proposal and not final was created by a special team of so-called entertainment industry owners, medical doctors, and advisors to the CCSA. Actual owners of these establishments are saying that enforcing these rules would make running bars, pubs or nightclubs unprofitable and awkward. They believe whoever created the rules is someone with absolutely zero knowledge and respect for the industry.
What owners and workers are angry about:
- no dancing allowed
- no singing karaoke
- bottle service is banned
- no pool tables or darts, etc
- no sitting and drinking with service staff (bar-girls)
Nathaphon said Thailand has gone 28 days without a single confirmed case of Covid19 and if there are no new cases after we keep bars open for a while, most likely, all the rules will be dropped by CCSA over time. The same will go for public transportation, restaurants, malls, hair salons, massage shops and other venues.
