A TODDLER was almost blinded after a lawnmower spat out a screw which became embedded in his eye.

The tot was rushed to hospital after the accident while his dad was using a handheld grass cutter in their garden in Khon Kaen, Thailand.

The three-year-old however had an extraordinarily narrow escape as the flying screw narrowly missed his pupil.

Just slightly further to the right would have left him blind in his left eye.

His dad was using the petrol-powered tool which was slung over his shoulder when the accident happened on Monday.

As he mowed the grass, the blade struck a one-inch long metal screw hidden in the lawn.

The piece of metal flicked into the air and flew straight into the toddler’s eyeball.

He was left screaming in agony and was quickly rushed to hospital.

Medics found that miraculously the screw missed the cornea and retina.

Doctors took pictures of his horrific injuries, showing the screw completely buried in his eye.

X-rays also reveal just how deep the piece of metal became lodged into his eye socket – almost reaching his skull.

Doctors performed successful surgery to remove the screw.

He is now was recovering on the ward at the Eye Care By Tuss clinic.

The ophthalmologist, Tat Sanguansak, said that they will check the wound over the coming days but they are confident the boy will be able to see again.
