Khon Kaen province –On 28 July, police inspector Pol. Col. Phuwamin In Nok, from Nam Phong police station in Khon Kaen province, was notified of death at a nearby house.

Police Col. Phuwanin and  Police Colonel Anusak Sakda along with  Phong Phor Medical rescue volunteers immediately arrived at the scene of the crime in the back of the one-story cement house.

This is where the deceased was last seen cleaning his gamecocks, family members say, raising gamecocks was his passion.

Police searched for clues around the body of Mr. Thep Phithong Wongyong, 28. Police found sharp wounds and teeth marks on the left side of the deceased neck who was found lying face down in a pool of blood.

Mrs. Rampai Wongrinyong, 45, the mother of the deceased, testified that the culprit was Mr. Chai, the deceased 41-year-old uncle whose house was only  500 meters away.

Mrs. Rampai Wongrinyong said a fight broke out several days ago over Aunty Chai stealing 20 kg of rice which resulted in Mr. Thep punching Mr. Wuttichai in front of his home.

Family members pointed out, Aunty Chai had stolen rice from the house to be sold many times and had also been warned many times to stop. Never the less Aunty Chai ignored the warnings and the nephew became furious causing him to lash out and fight.

Right before the incident, Mr. Chai was working in the house while his son was scraping gamecocks in the backyard.  Mr. Chai then walked from the front of the house around to the back of the house before using a knife to cut the neck of his nephew, who died on the spot.

Chai then left the scene of his crime and went to his home before the police arrested him.  Witnesses later identified Mr. Chai as the murderer who was also seen carrying a bag over the wall to where the deceased was.

Initially, the accused denied that he had killed his nephew, but more evidence had been found including the murder weapon which had been collected for evidence. Furthermore, the police later tested  Mr. Chai for narcotics which he was found to be positive for amphetamines.

He was charged for intentionally killing another person and for the illegal use of drugs. He is expected to be sentenced later this week.
