Police say that the phone of a key witness in the hit-and-run case involving Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya was stolen and destroyed after the witness died in a Chiang Mai traffic incident last week.

Jaruchat Madthong died on Wednesday night last week after crashing his motorcycle in a hit and run, but his phone went missing – triggering public doubt that it had been stolen to destroy vital evidence.

Police believed the phone had been stolen so the hit-and-run case wouldn’t be linked to a public official who was running in a local election.

The former Chiang Mai senator, Chuchai Lertpongadisorn’s aid later admitted to stealing the phone from the deceased at the hospital after the accident and was charged with theft.
