Thailand human rights protest continued on August 7, at Bang Khen Police Station, while over 200 protesters outside demanded police to immediately release human rights lawyers Anon Nampa and Panupong Jaadnok who had a court hearing on Friday evening following their arrest earlier in the day.

They were both arrested during recent rallies, facing charges of sedition, violating the emergency decree as well as other offenses.

Directly after the courts denied their inquiries’ requests due to exceeding deadlines specified by officials, protesters demanded that authorities release both of them.

The Criminal Code, Section 68, states that the arrest warrant has ended with 3 reasons.
1. When the accused can be arrested
2. An arrest warrant is terminated.
3. The court revokes the arrest warrant.

Therefore, In the case of attorneys Anon and Panupong,  the inquiry officially has no more detention power and they should be released.

Instead,  police took them both to a detention center at Huai Khwang Police Station after dragging them from the courts into vehicles amid 200 angry protesters who were rallying outside.

The two are still in custody while protesters have pledged not to stop protesting until both were released and served justice.

Later,  a message posted on the TLHR Twitter account on behalf of Mr. Anon asking that his supporters continue on with their rallies. He said, “I am willing to sacrifice my freedom and to stand by my principles,” he added, “Don’t waste your time on freeing me, use your time to fight for the goals we are fighting for.”
