Alcohol Ban Today! (Visakha Bucha Day)
No Booze today folks, as today is a public holiday in Thailand to mark Visakha Bucha Day, the day is the most significant day in the Buddhist calendar…
In Thailand, Visakha Bucha Day is a time when the devout visit local temples to “make merit,” by giving donations and engaging in various rituals. While there, they also listen to sermons on Buddha’s teachings, meditate, recommit themselves to follow the precepts of Buddhism, and offer food to temple workers. Some also set birds or fish free as a means of eliminating “negative karma”.
Thai law prohibits the sale of alcoholic beverages on Visakha Bucha Day…
Buddha was born in India some 2,500 years ago as a rich prince, but he left that life of luxury to seek out wisdom from the wise hermits who lived in woodlands scattered throughout the region at the time. He felt disappointed, however, and instead meditated under a Bodhi tree. There, he is believed to have attained enlightenment at the age of 35 and to have formulated the basic tenets of Buddhism. Later, at age 80, he died. Buddhists believe he then entered the state of “nirvana” and escaped all suffering, death, and reincarnation.

Triple deck wooden Chao Phraya river boat sinks with 75 passengers aboard–VIDEO
75 passengers boarded the triple-decker wooden ship at the Ramada Plaza luxury hotel in Charoen Krung before they quickly decided to stop the ship at the Suan Somdej Pier near Phra Pok Klao River to offloading all of them before sinking into the Chao Phraya river.
The incident happened on August 2nd passengers were enjoying a cruise along the Chao Phraya River while also eating dinner. The wooden cruiser normally heads down to King Prajadhipok Bridge and cycle back. But the crew quickly noticed that something was terribly wrong since the entire ship was leaning to the right.
The captain then decided to bring the boat to the private port to safely evacuate all 75 passengers to land. Later, officials reported that there was a leak on the right side of the hull.

Phuket Vegetarian Festival takes a COVID-19 hit
PHUKET: Fire-walking, bladed-ladder climbing, hot oil bathing and crossing “bridges of nails” have all been banned at this year’s Phuket Vegetarian Festival following a directive from the Phuket Communicable Disease Committee. However, the committee has made no such rulings on the face piercings that have made the festival famous
“This year, there will be no supernatural ablutions of faith and flesh – including fire-walking, bladed-ladder climbing, hot oil bathing and nail-bridge crossing,” Vachira Phuket Hospital Director Dr Chalermpong Sukontapol, who sits on the Phuket Communicable Disease Committee, told Chinese shrine administrators at a meeting earlier this week.
