A happy ending to a Father and 5-yr-old daughter making ends meet during pandemic

COVID-19 survival Thailand

A heartwarming story of a  young security guard who became unemployed as a direct result of the pandemic. Every morning Mr. Somchai Bunphong brought his 5-year-old daughter to collect trash and old things along nearby streets to put food on his table. One day a writer saw the two of them collecting trash along  Sukhumvit Road, in Chon Buri Province, and decided to write a story about them.

Somchai revealed that his daughter has not yet received an education because he doesn’t have enough money to pay for the school. Previously, he worked as a security guard for a company, but COVID-19 had shut it down and he was laid off. He said he cannot read or write which makes it even harder for him to find a job, so he does what he can to barely provide enough food on the table for the two of them and his father in a wheelchair.

After the story was posted, it received a lot of attention, and people from all over offered help, in fact over 944,391 Baht was donated to them in the form of a bank account set in Miss Arada Bunphong’s name. Also, she was given a  scholarship at Ban Hin Wong School. They told her the majority of the money will remain in the account until she graduates with a bachelor’s degree which she was very excited to accept.

Later, Mr. Panthakon thanked the group president graciously for the bags of food and all the other donations. the group just asked the father to no longer take the little girl to walk to collect rubbish on the streets due to fear of them getting hurt by oncoming traffic.

It sounds like she has a bright future ahead of her.

Opening of the “New Naga Cave” in Phu Lanka.

Published

on

Bueng Kan 28 Jun – Phu Lanka National Park, Bueng Kan Province, exploring the mysterious Naka Cave which resembles a snake.  A new tourist attraction in the province prepares to open today for or a limited amount of tours. Just one of the  127 national parks around the country opening today.

Location: The Naka cave is about 3-4 km from the Tad Wiman Tip waterfall in PhuLangka National Park in Bueng Kan province, Thailand Link: https://goo.gl/maps/fy3VQvjc4SUAGpxd7

Phu Lanka National Park in Nakhon Phanom province and Bueng Kan province has gone on everyone’s bucket list after releasing a picture of a cave online.

Giant snake cave walls , steep steps, spanning over 1.5 kilometers. It takes more than 2 hours from the entrance to Wat Tham Chai Mongkhon to reach the cave.

It looks like erosion or something. The stone looks really porous so it wouldn’t be surprising if these scales were just erosion. But I have to admit: looks like something out of Greek mythology, maybe a snake that looked into the eyes of Medusa or something.

There are several problems with this effigy. It was only found 2 weeks ago. Some reports are coming out that they are testing the “scales” of the formation to see if it is a fossil. The implications of this are endless. There is also a myth of a “god-king” who was turned into a giant snake due to what he did to a village. The story has yet to be confirmed, but always good  to read about Eastern myths of plumed serpents.

The head which appears above is not a part of the Cave structure but consists of a different geological formation in Laos. Sources are scarce and some claim they are the same structure. I welcome all to criticize, propose thoughts, as well as source hunt! With all this being said even if this formation is natural I would propose this (as well as other Asian Geological Formations) for inspiration of the Naga Myth. Then again we must remember that pre-WW2 as well as during WW2 something drew Nazi Germany to Asia. Have fun and be nice!

Geologists say that the nature of the phenomenon is a geological phenomenon called sand cracking, sandstone has expanded and contracted by changes in temperature varying between day and night since the past. Break into a square on the surface like a snake scale.

Peaceful Protesters Commemorate 88th anniversary of the bloodless revolution

Published

on

Dozens of pro-democracy activists gathered at the Democracy Monument last week to commemorate the 88th anniversary of the bloodless June 24 revolution by re-enacting one of Thailand’s most decisive moments.

Police officers had Royal Plaza under close watch as protester began to arrive at the symbolic roundabout on Ratchadamnoen Avenue.

as peaceful protesters started to arrive they set up the stage to recreate the reading done  88 years ago called the Promoters’ manifesto.

Some protestors wore period costumes of the Khana Ratsadon, or People’s Party, which led the revolt.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/86/Khana_Ratsadon_-_Navy.jpg/600px-Khana_Ratsadon_-_Navy.jpg

In February of 1927, a group of seven Siamese students, later known as the “promoters”, met at a hotel on the Rue Du Sommerard in Paris and founded what would become Khana Ratsadon. For five days they met and proposed arguments for and against various aspects of the movement, the men were:

1. Lieutenant Prayoon Pamornmontri, Army officer, formerly of King Vajiravudh’s Royal Guards
2. Lieutenant Plaek Khittasangkha, later Luang Phibulsonggram, Army officer, student, School of Applied Artillery, France
3. Lieutenant Thatsanai Mitphakdi, Army officer, student, French Cavalry Academy
4. Tua Lophanukrom, a scientist studying in Switzerland
5. Luang Siriratchamaitri, diplomat, an officer at the Siamese Embassy in Paris
6. Naep Phahonyothin, a law student studying in England
7. Pridi Banomyong, a law student studying at the Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris

They followed these Six principles:

Six Principles of Khana Ratsadon in Constitution celebration
A school notebook published in 1934, with illustrations of the six principles on its cover, displayed at the Thai Parliament Museum, Bangkok.

The revolutionaries made Pridi Panomyong their president and termed themselves the “promoters” (Thai: ผู้ก่อการ; RTGS: Phu Ko Kan). The party determined a sixfold objective which was later called the “Six Principles” (Thai: หลักหกประการ; RTGS: Lak Hok Prakan), as follows:

1. To maintain the supreme power of the Thai people.
2. To maintain national security.
3. To maintain the economic welfare of the Thai people in accordance with the National Economic Project.
4. To protect the equality of the Thai people.
5. To maintain the people’s rights and liberties, insofar as they are not inconsistent with any of the above-mentioned principles.
6. To provide public education for all citizens.

Legacy

The party was eventually successful in their goal of revolution by a bloodless coup. By 1933 they had turned Siam into a single-party state. However, the party itself was short-lived, due to infighting as the party had too many factions, conflicting interests, and political beliefs. The party eventually divided into two factions, a civilian faction led by Pridi Bhanomyong, and a military faction led by Marshal Pibulsongkram.

They would dominate Thai politics for the next two decades, producing six Prime Ministers of Thailand from their ranks. The party declined at about the time the Second World War ended.

“On June 24th, 88 years ago was the last day of the absolute monarchy, the dawn of democracy,” rights lawyer Arnon Nampa noted of the event.

The protesters in the end were allowed to project a hologram of the 1932 declaration onto a raised canvas. It included a scene portraying Khana Ratsadon leader Phraya Phahonphonphayuhasena reading the statement.

Later, police warned attendees they would be arrested if they violated the law – this was most likely due to the Emergency decree and not for any other reason, they peacefully left as instructed by police.

Farmers swap out rice farm for Huak-Frog Farm–VIDEO

Published

Huak Farm Northeast Thailand

A 63-year-old farmer Mr. Bua Pan Bunthasen and his wife got tired of being rice farmers in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. So instead, they decided to transform their 1 rai rice field into a Huak Farm in Northeast Thailand. They both carefully selected about 2000 1yr old frogs and released them into a pond.

Then they will let nature take its course letting the male and females mate until laying eggs, hatching into larvae, and becoming tadpoles.

The larvae or tadpoles are separated and released naturally after a 2-3 week period where the tadpoles will grow in size.  The tadpoles can be sold for a  price of up to 150-200 baht per kilogram which is in high demand from customers who use them in a variety of local food dishes.

They also have a cement pond for raising adult tadpoles which transform into small frogs after 2 months. The small frogs can fetch a wholesale price of 150-200 baht per kilogram. The couple loves their new career of raising frogs and tadpoles. and have been in business for 3 years now.

The couple has become very successful in frog farming, making an average monthly income of 20,000 – 30,000 baht which is better than rice farming because there is no risk of loss and can be done throughout the year.

Huak Farm Northeast Thailand

Huak is the Thai Northeastern word meaning “Tadpole”. Most people in the Northeastern region of Thailand mix the tadpoles with Thai herbs and spicy seasoning and then wrap it in a banana leaf and then grilled. This dish has high nutrients and is very popular among locals.
