The government is hoping to start testing its locally manufactured Covid-19 vaccine on humans before the end of the year, according to Suvit Maesincee, Minister of Higher Education Science Research and Innovation.

“If our vaccine trial on monkeys proves successful, we will start the human trial phase after August,” Mr Suvit told the media yesterday.

A seriously ill Covid-19 patient in Hat Yai district of Songkhla province is now ready to go home after full recovery thanks to plasma treatment at Songklanagarind Hospital.

The hospital said that this was the first case in the southern region where plasma donation by a cured patient had worked in treating Covid-19.

Pubs, bars, and entertainment venues will be allowed to reopen in the coming weeks if the daily count of new virus cases stays in single digits, the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced on Tuesday (May 19).
